Competitions

There are lots of opportunities to win things online.

Read on to find out the SMART way to sign up for things online.

Top Tips

  • Read the terms and conditions and privacy policy when you enter personal details onto a website – check where your information will go!
  • Be very suspicious if things online appear too good to be true – they probably are!
  • Talk to your family about setting up a family email address for online shopping and signing up for things online – keep your own personal email address for writing and receiving emails from your friends.
  • Sometimes it’s hard to separate fun stuff on a website from boring adverts. Read the links on websites carefully and speak to an adult or run your computer security scan if you click on an advert by mistake.

Advertising

Some websites contain a lot of advertising. If you get a pop up you can get rid of it by not even moving your mouse. If you press ALT F4 the window that is open will close.

Razza from Scotland:

"I think the internet is cool. My favourite tip is always read the small print when you sign up for competitions online..."
